a tale as old as time..

I've never been one to accept anything at face value; so when this war between Hammas and Israel started, I had to research. Words like 'land grab' 'apartheid' 'prosecution' has been thrown about quite freely; what surprised me most was that our country has a law about spreading fake news, but much of that has been going about without fear or fervour.

Israelis have been chased out of their home more than 2000 years ago; they have scattered to all parts of the world where they have been shunned, marginalised, not allowed in universities or professions and killed. 6 million of them in gas chambers.

It took over 2000 years for the western world to see what their actions has caused this race; and attempted to make it right - by giving their homeland back to them, albeit 2000 years too late.

This race, which has been scattered across the world, living as refugees, denied education and ultimately tortured while the world looked on - have been given a home once again. A place where they can finally be safe and protected from prosecution; thrive in education, profession and economics but the war started the day after their country was established, before they even got their arms.

They knew their neighbours didn't want them there. Obviously, they were going to defend their home, they knew first hand what it feels like to not have a home. If they captured more in a war that was started to take what was given to them, is this their fault?

Did the Palestinians living in Israel apply for citizenship or did they refuse to apply, as they didn't want to recognise this state? If it is the latter, do you really blame the government for evacuating them?

I've lived in East Malaysia, where there are Philipinos who have lived there since before the formation of Malaysia, and they too are 'stateless'. They, like the Palestinians believe Sabah belongs to the Philippines, and they, like the Palestinians have been denied healthcare, education, running water, electricity or proper housing.

In just 73 years, from all over the world, Israelis came back and formed a country and it now has one of the best healthcare and advancements in the world. Most of them have had someone they are related to lost in the holocaust.

My mom lost her grandad during the Japanese Occupation when he was taken for the construction of the infamous death railways. I know what it feels like to have your family torn apart because of war.

For a whole nation to come back, and build themselves up after being oppressed; instead of sitting around and licking their wounds, is admirable.

If the Arab nations, who have been occupying the land way before Israel was re-formed, cared to take care of Palestine, instead of fuelling a war against Israel, I'm sure everyone would lead a better life.

A whole generation of Jews were murdered in the Holocaust, they were scattered around the world, with many not having the opportunity for education, and only returned to this newly formed country 70 years ago - how did they become one of the most advanced nations in the world?

What are we doing with our lives? This is likened to saying the Rohingyas are going to be the next superpowers; all they need is a country.

Cambodia is taking years to recover from war crimes - we need to watch out for them too.

China was oppressed by the Japanese - look at them now.

We just became lazy, and take our lives for granted. It takes losing everything, to make someone not take anything for granted.

Israel has been fighting for survival since before Moses. Jacob was given Esau's birthright, much like Israel was given to the Jews by the UN. They will have to defend it, and they're likely not to get the popular vote.

When someone who has had nothing, is given something - they're going to make the best use of it. Don't wage a war you can't win.

And if the Palestinians in Israel want housing, education, food and medical benefits - become a citizen and obey the rule of law.

We did, but a very worrying number of Malaysian Indians still die in Malaysian police custody.
